A solar park at a coal plant to be built in Poland

The Polish energy company PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA announced its intention to build a solar park with a capacity of up to 600 MW.

The facility will be located on the territory of a coal-fired power plant in central Poland.

In accordance with the developed plan, the company intends to build photovoltaic power plants within three years, and add wind generators with a capacity of about 100 MW to them within 5-7 years.

It is planned that the photovoltaic systems will cover an area of about 500 hectares. Some of the installations will be located on the territory of the coal complex. This facility is one of the largest thermal power plants in Europe and emits a huge amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Thanks to the construction of a solar park on its territory, it is planned to gradually stop the capacity of the coal station and replace them with the production of environmentally friendly clean electricity.

According to the EcoTown information portal, over the next decade, PGE plans to build a large number of clean energy facilities in Poland: 3 GW solar power plants, 2.5 GW offshore wind farms and 1 GW offshore wind farms. An investment of 100 million euros is expected to be invested in the project.
