According to the statistics of the German analytics service, in the past 2020, the Chinese manufacturing company Tongwei, which simultaneously produces solar panels and batteries, was recognized as the leader of the world polysilicon market.
The Chinese manufacturer has become the leader with polysilicon production reaching almost 100,000 tons. In second place is also a Chinese company with 90,000 tons of products, and in third – Germany. The German manufacturer produced just over 80,000 tonnes of material widely used in solar photovoltaics last year.
The Chinese manufacturer, Tongwei, currently owns three manufacturing locations and plans to significantly increase its performance this year, firmly establishing itself as a global leader.
According to the information portal PV Magazine, there is a high probability that in the near future the composition of the representatives of the “big three” world producers of polysilicon may change – it will include only representatives of the Celestial Empire. A representative of a German analytical company warns the European community about this situation and the possible future dependence of the global solar industry on the supply of products from China. He suggests starting now to search for a non-Chinese supply chain of raw materials for the production of solar modules in European and American industries.
